Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the occasion of Guru Gobind Singh’s 350th birthday, launched a commemorative silver coin having a denomination of Rs 350 and took a jibe at Congress by calling Kartarpur corridor an atonement of 1947 mistake. The PM also targeted Congress regarding the 1984 anti-Sikh riots which came as an aftermath of the death of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

These statements came in the presence of senior Congress dignitaries including ex-Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

“A mistake took place in August 1947. It (the corridor) is an atonement of the mistake. An important place of our guru was only a few kilometres away. But it could not be made the part (of India during partition) … the corridor is an effort to reduce the damage,” PM Modi said as reported by Indian Express.

The Narendra Modi led Central government approved the development of the Kartarpur corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district to the Pakistan border on 22 November last year.
