Pakistan-based terror groups are using the method of ‘honey trapping’ to woo Kashmiri youth towards militancy. Syed Shazia, a woman in her early 30s, was arrested by the police in Bandipore a fortnight ago after an intelligence-based operation.
Shazia was booked under the Ranbir Penal Code (the equivalent of IPC) and Arms Act, by officials from the central security agencies. Investigators revealed that she had accounts on Instagram and Facebook which were being followed by Kashmiri youth.
There was a strict watch being maintained on Shazia’s Internet Protocol (IP) address for months. She used to converse with the youths and used to promise to meet them only if a particular ‘consignment’ was delivered from one place to another.
Shazia was on the investigating agency’s radar since September last year after the killing of Abu Ismail, a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist operating in Kashmir, and Chotta Qassim, in an encounter.
The police recovered materials and documents from the site of the encounter which indicated that the woman from North Kashmir was involved in supplying ammunition to the two.
Shazia later started working for Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) as an overground worker and was delivering weapons in the Valley, as per reports in The New Indian Express.
