The chief pujari at the Badrinath Mandir in Uttarakhand, Rawal Ishwari Prasad Nambudiri, has appealed to the state government to keep the Char Dham Yatra suspended till 30 June owing to the rise in Covid-19 cases in the country.
The Char Dham Yatra, which is the pilgrimage of the four major spiritual destinations, brings Hindus from across the country to Uttarakhand.
Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has said that he and his cabinet would be considering the opening of the Char Dham Yatra in a limited manner after 8 June.
This report mentions that Dharmadhikari of the Badrinath temple Bhuvan Chandra Uniyal has made a request for the safety of all in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
He has been quoted saying: "Health infrastructure in Badrinath is poor and starting the yatra in circumstances like these can be risky. Hence, the chief minister has been requested to keep it suspended till 30 June."
The gates of the temple were opened in mid May. At the time of the reopening of the temple, which took place under a low key ceremony, only 27 people including the chief pujari were allowed at the temple.
The online darshan of Baba Kedar at the Kedarnath Temple is continuing. Devotees are sent the prasad by post.
