Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is looking to soon start using drones for aerial monitoring of the progress of its construction projects, reports TOI. The plan is to have aerial monitoring take place on a fortnightly basis.

Among the projects which will be surveyed in such a manner will be the New South Parallel Runway (NSPR) project spanning 624 acres, the T2 terminal and apron project spanning 166 acres, as well as the forecourt project area of around 128 acres.

Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), the company which operates KIA, has already come out with tenders for the drone monitoring project.

The unmanned aerial vehicles will capture HD footage and images to track the pace of progress on constructing the new runway and terminal, as well as various other infrastructure works which are currently ongoing. These projects are being carried out under Phase 2 of KIA’s expansion plans and the new infrastructure comes equipped with advanced technologies which will make operations smoother and safer.
