Congress and Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers clashed at Kannur temple in Kerala on Thursday (24 January). At least four people which include ‘komaram’ (oracle) and his son along with two Congress party workers sustained injuries on the temple premises at Vattappara on the outskirts of Koothuparamba, reports The Hindu.

The Congress party alleged that CPI (M) workers were behind the attack. The police have said that even though the workers are identified to be CPI (M) workers, the attacks were motivated by non-political reasons.

Kannur district has witnessed similar violent incidents in the past with a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker being hacked to death by CPI(M) workers in early 2017 as per reports by BJP workers and locals .

Furthermore, it is claimed that the incumbent Kerala communist government knew of the murder of Youth Congress leader S P Shuhaib of Mattanur in Kerala’s Kannur district. More than a dozen of political murders have taken place since Pinarayi Vijayan took office as Kerala’s Chief Minister.
