K K Shailaja (Source: @ANI/Twitter)
Former Kerala Health Minister K K Shailaja yesterday flayed the communist government in the state for not providing enough support to the unorganised sector amidst novel coronavirus pandemic, reports TOI.
She moved a calling attention of the minister of industries and coir P Rajeeve, and stressed the need for a special revitalisation package for the sector. She said that the people in the sector had taken huge loans and were facing severe crises in meeting daily needs due to the present situation.
"The present announced packages provide only temporary relief to the sector. The salary arrears in the handloom sector haven't been disbursed yet. Steps should be taken at the earliest to release the arrears," she said.
The former minister demanded a 10 per cent increase in Onam rebate for the handloom products as well as interest-free loans. "The welfare fund is insufficient. They need a special package," she said.
P Rajeeve did not give any commitment to any of the demands made by Shailaja, but only listed out the relief packages announced by the government for diverse sectors.
