Kerala-based activist Rehana Fathima, who gained notoriety for her attempts to desecrate the Sabarimala shrine, has been booked by the police for posting a video on social media platforms in which her two minor children are painting on the activist’s topless body.

Thiruvalla Police has registered a criminal case against Rehana Fathima under Section 67 of the IT Act (electronically transmitting sexually explicit content) and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act for cruelty to child.

On June 19, Rehana Fathima shared a YouTube video embedded Facebook post of her son and daughter painting on her semi-nude body. The video was accompanied by her post with the hashtag #BodyArtPolitics.

Rehana Fathima attempted to stoke a controversy by trying to enter the Sabarimala temple following a Supreme Court order in September 2018 that allowed the women of all age groups to enter the Sabarimala temple. She and another woman reached the hilltop on October 19 but had to return before reaching the sanctum sanctorum following massive protests by Ayyappa devotees.

In November 2019, a five-judge bench headed by then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi referred the matter to a larger bench to examine the matter and also clubbed the issues on the entry of women in the religious places of other religions.

Rehana Fathima was also a part of 'Kiss of Love' movement in Kochi in 2014 against alleged moral policing. Rahul Pasupalan, the key organizer of the 'Kiss of Love’ campaign and his model wife Resmi Nair were arrested in 2015 in connection with their role in online prostitution racket.

Rehana Fathima was also convicted in a cheque-fraud case and awarded a fine of Rs. 2.1 lakh and one day of imprisonment in the year 2014.
