The union cabinet on Wednesday (10 July) approved a bill which seeks to merge 13 central labour laws into a single code which would apply on all establishments employing 10 or more workers, reports Economic Times.

The proposed Code on Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Bill, 2019 would subsume the relevant central laws and simplify the adoption of them, while enhancing the coverage of workers manifold.

As per the details revealed post the cabinet meeting, the Code would apply to all industries, trades and businesses, including IT establishments or the establishments of the services sector.

The meeting chaired by the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi was attended by senior ministers including Union Minister for Environment and Information and Broadcasting, Prakash javadekar who later apprised the mediapersons of the decision of the cabinet on the Code.
