Upset with the insipid celebrations of Tipu Jayanti, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah put out a Tweet reflecting his displeasure at the poor participation and lack lustre celebrations.

The Hindu quoted his tweet that read, “Compromises are sometimes necessary in view of public good. I too may have comprised. However, when it comes to the fundamental ideology like secularism, I cannot compromise. Power will be there and go away. I don’t care.”

Both Chief Minister (CM) H D Kumaraswamy and Deputy CM Dr Parameshwara were missing from the ceremony. He took a jibe at them by saying that power is not permanent.

It was the previous Congress government in the state headed by Siddaramaiah that began the official celebration of Tipu Jayanti in the state.

The decision had attracted criticism on account of the contention that Tipu Sultan was a bigot who had massacred Hindus and Christians and carried out forced conversions to Islam.

Siddaramaiah is reportedly upset over the coalition partner JD(S) not continuing the Congress tradition.

“He believed that Tipu Jayanti, which was started by the Congress government, would be held in a grand manner, as the JD(S), in the power-sharing agreement had agreed to carry forward all the programmes started by the Congress. This is akin to belittling a Congress programme,” The Hindu quoted the sources.
