A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Ranchi today (3 January) postponed Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s sentencing in a fodder scam related case and will now pronounce the quantum of punishment against Yadav and 15 others on Thursday (4 January), Times of India has reported.
The court had, on 23 December, found the former Chief Minister of Bihar and others guilty of fraudulently withdrawing Rs 89.23 lakh from Deoghar treasury. Lalu and others had withdrawn the amount by furnishing fake bills and vouchers related to fodder procurement between 1991 and 1994, the court found.
The court, on Wednesday, also found RJD leaders Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Tejashwi Yadav and Manoj Jha guilty of contempt of court.
The Patna High Court had in 1996 ordered an inquiry into the fodder scam cases. In 1997, a charge sheet was filed against 38 people in the treasury case.
This is the second fodder scam related case in which Yadav has been convicted. He was sentenced to five years in jail in a similar case of fraudulent withdrawal by a special CBI court in 2013.
