A job advertisement published in an English daily in Pakistan recently sparked a controversy and debate online. The job advertisement by "the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh)", the Indian Express reported, was for a recruitment programme. The advertisement, as per the report, specifies “non-Muslims only” for the post of sanitation workers.

The report says, "The advertisement, which was published in Dawn on August 26 listed vacancies for various posts in both combatant and non-combatant services. However, among all the designated job only the work of sanitation worker specified the preference for minorities."

A photograph of the advertisement became viral when minority rights activist Kapil Dev shared a clip on social networking site Twitter.

Dev tweeted on 30 August “So, the criteria for job of a sweeper/sanitary workers in Pakistan is just you should be “NON-MUSLIM ONLY”!! Your job is to make filth only, and our is to clean only!”

The Times of India reported that the "racist" advertisement was criticised severely online.  Several attacks on Hindus, Christians, Ahamadis, and other groups have taken place in Pakistan over the years.
