It looks like the UK is finally tired, just like India, of sundry activists and lawyers targeting the country’s armed forces through legal and other means.
Britain’s newly-appointed Prime Minister, Theresa May, who replaced David Cameron after the Brits decided to leave the European Union, has vowed to protect her country’s armed forces from the onslaught of the “left-wing human rights lawyers”.
“We will never again in any future conflict let those activists, left wing human rights lawyers harangue and harass the bravest of the brave: the men and women of our armed forces," May said, addressing this year’s Conservative Party Conference.
May’s ministers are lobbying hard to make Brit soldiers exempt from European human rights laws during future conflicts. Britain has decided to leave the European Union, so it makes little sense to be bound by its rules. In any case, the soldiers will be bound by the Geneva conventions and UK criminal law.
