Light At The End Of A Long Tunnel: India Just 28,594 Households Away From Achieving 100 Per Cent Electrification

As per latest data released by the Ministry of Power, only 28,594 households in India are left to be electrified for the country to achieve 100 per cent electrification, reports Financial Express.
Out of the unelectrified households, 20,134 of them are in Chhattisgarh and the remaining 8,460 are in Rajasthan.
“The task of household electrification is almost complete. As many as 2.5 crore unelectrified households were identified. All willing households will (under Saubhagya scheme) be provided electricity connection by March 2019,” Union Finance Minister Piyush Goyal had said in his budget speech on 1 February 2019.
The unelectrified households form just 0.1 per cent of the total residences in the country and they cluster around in five districts of the two states. “We hope to meet the target in the next 10-12 days," said a government official to Times of India (TOI) on 10 February (2019).
‘Good Fate’
PM Modi launched the Saubhagya (Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana) scheme in 2017 to electrify all the remaining households in the country by March 2019. It builds upon the progress made by another NDA government’s scheme for the sector, Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY). It helped the government achieve 100 per cent electrification of all villages in India in 2018.
