Maulana Syed Ashhad Rashidi, legal heir of the original Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute on Monday (2 December) filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against its recent verdict.

This development comes after the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) said that a review petition will be filed as 99 per cent of Muslims in the country do not agree with the unanimous Supreme Court verdict on the Ayodhya temple, reports India Today.

AIMPLB General Secretary Maulana Wali Rahmani told PTI, "Muslims trust judiciary that is why a review petition is being filed. However, the trust has weakened after the SC verdict on Ayodhya."

"Ninety-nine per cent of Muslims of the country are in favour of a review petition. If it is understood that a big section is against this, it is wrong," he said.

However the Sunni Central Waqf Board which was one of the main litigants has decided not to file a review petition in this matter.
