About a month ago, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) announced their alliance in Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha elections. Today, SP founder and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav said in the Lok Sabha that he wanted to Narendra Modi to return as Prime Minister.

"We want him (Narendra Modi) to become Prime Minister once again," Yadav said. "He has done good work and nobody can raise a finger against him." You can watch the clip of his statement below.

While the SP patriarch was wishing for PM Modi’s second term, seated next to him was none other than UPA chairperson and former Congress president, Sonia Gandhi.

As this story develops, what would be noteworthy to follow is the effect of Yadav’s statement on the Samajwadi Party cadre on the ground in Uttar Pradesh. Another question, which arises from today’s development, is whether Yadav’s statement was was his personal view or if it is also shared by others members of his party.
