Protests over the Sabarimala row have taken on a broad spectrum as protest marches are being organised at Sree Ayyappa temple, Sector 47, in Chandigarh. The march is reported to have been held in association with Sree Kartikeya Swamy temple in Sector 31.

Interestingly, Tamil women are reported to have joined their Malayalee brethren in a solidarity march organised from Sree Kartikeya temple to Sree Ayyappa temple, against the Supreme Court verdict that took away the centuries-old tradition of restricting women aged between 10 and 50 at the shrine.

“They (Tami women) joined their Keralite sisters, along with male devotees, and conducted Nama-Japa yatra (chanting Lord Ayyappas’ mantras),” said Rajeev Kumar, President of Ayyappa Samajam.

While the Jallikattu verdict was overturned due to massive public protests, the Communist government in Kerala also manipulated the Supreme Court ruling on liquor sales near highways. The Supreme Court ruling on Sabarimala should also be kept aside, considering the sentiments of millions of devotees, he added.
