At least three people were killed and eight injured after a lorry rammed into a department store in central Stockholm, a few metres away from the Indian Embassy. The embassy staff have safely escaped the incident, sources in the embassy confirmed to ANI.

The lorry is said to be owned by the Swedish brewery company Spendrups, which says the lorry had been stolen earlier in the day.

Speaking to ANI, Indian Ambassador to Sweden, Monika Mohta, said, “I heard loud noises and saw two people lying on street. I also saw three others injured.” She also informed that rail services have been temporarily halted and the House of Culture has been shut down.

The police have reportedly released a picture of a man wanted in connection with the attack. At a press conference, National Police Commissioner Dan Eliasson said, “We want this person to get in touch with the police. The picture was taken earlier today, on the scene and at the relevant time for checking what cameras have captured images.”

The Stockholm police is being reinforced by the National Task Force, the bomb squad and the police helicopter support, reported Radio Sweden.

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven has said in a statement “all indications are that it was a terrorist attack.”
