The Madhya Pradesh (MP) Government has reduced the prices of COVID-19 test in the private laboratories from earlier Rs 2,500 to Rs 1,980, reports Hindustan Times.
The downward revision in charges marks the second such slashing of the upper cap on prices of the test in private labs, which were earlier as high as Rs 4,500 per test. On 24 April, the price was fixed at Rs 2,500 per test in private labs.
It should further be noted that the charges include sample collection, packaging and reporting.
Issuing the order for downward revision of prices, State's Public Health and Family Welfare department's Principal Secretary Faiz Ahmad Kidwai emphasised that the rate was revised down as manufacturing of RT-PCR testing kits is now taking place domestically.
The government’s decision is likely to bring much relief to the common people.
The State has total 70 government-run laboratories and eight private ones which have been approved by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
