The Madras High Court on Thursday (7 March) sentenced an IAS Officer to 15 days in jail for contempt of court, New Indian Express has reported. The officer has also been fined Rs 5,000.

As per the report, the Madras High Court had passed an order on 24 October 2016 directing the Madurai Corporation to promote five bill collectors to bring them at par with their juniors. The court gave a time of four weeks to implement its order.

The then Madurai Corporation Commissioner though did not comply with the order, following which the petitioner again knocked on the doors of the Madras High Court.

As a result of that, the bench led by Justice Muralidaran sentenced the IAS officer for contempt of court.

Recently, the IAS officer had assumed charge of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) as an Executive Director.
