Nagpur Maha Metro - Representative Image (CMO Maharashtra/Twitter)
A 29 km Thane metro project was cleared by the Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday (5 March), Press Trust of India has reported.
This project would be implemented by the Maha Metro on behalf of the Thane Municipal Corporation. Expecting to cost around Rs 13,095 crore, this project would be completed in about four years.
Majority of the metro project would be elevated, and only 2.2 km out of the total 29 km is expected to be underground. There would be a total of 22 stations on the metro line, and the daily ridership is predicted to be 5.76 lakh. The fare is expected to be in the range of Rs 17 to Rs 104.
The metro route would span from the old city area and would be connected to the Wadala-Kasarvadavli Metro at two junctions. It would also be linked to the Thane-Bhiwandi- Kalyan Metro Line 5 at the Majiwada junction.
About 65 per cent of the metro’s energy requirements would be met via solar energy. This would be harnessed by a total of 10 lakh solar panels placed above metro station roofs.
