The Maharashtra government, on 20 December (Thursday), approved the development of a university named after renowned nuclear physicist, Homi Jehangir Bhabha. The university will enable students to opt for a ‘choice-based credit system.’ The state cabinet has approved the formation of the university.
“Once this university is established, students will have the option of studying through a choice-based credit system. For instance, a student studying commerce in Sydenham College will have the option of studying arts as well in Elphinstone College,” said Education Minister Vinod Tawde as per reports by Indian Express.
The University will consist of Institute of Science, the Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics, the Elphinstone College and Government College of Education (BEd College).
The recommendations of the of the Bongirwar Commission have been approved by the government, and now the universities will be able to introduce courses of different subjects.
Furthermore, Tawde said that the formation of this university would assist students in getting better employment opportunities as the students will gain educational benefits from all the colleges.
