Citing unmet demands by the Maharashtra government, 70,000 junior college teachers in the state have threatened to boycott the upcoming Maharashtra HSC Board Exam 2019 for Class XII students, reports India Today.
Previously, the association representing the said teachers, the Members of the Maharashtra Federation of Junior College Teachers Organisation (MFUCTO) had on 31 January 2019 met with the state’s Education Minister Vinod Tawde to put forward their demands.
The teachers say that the government had promised to meet their demands within ten days. On that assurance, they had conducted internal and practical exams in their respective institutes.
They are up in arms again claiming that even as the deadline has passed, their demands remain unmet.
“It is past the deadline but none of our demands are met. Because of the assurances, we allowed the practical and internal exams to be conducted smoothly. However, if the demands are not executed by 21 February, we will not conduct any board exam duties including supervision during the papers,” the secretary general of MFUCTO stated.
The main demands of these teachers are that teaching posts be regularised, calculation errors in implementing 7th Pay Commission recommendations be fixed, and timely increments be awarded to those faculty with more than 25 years of service.
