United States President Donald Trump has said that Indians were ‘good trade negotiators’ and added that he was grateful for his friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during Diwali celebrations at the White House, PTI has reported. He reiterated that India has ‘deep relations’ with the United States of America.

“Our nation is blessed to be home to millions of hardworking citizens of Indian and Southeast Asian heritage, who enrich our country in countless ways.  Together, we are one proud American family.  Do we agree with that? Huh? I think so,” Trump said during the celebrations.

The President took part in the Diwali celebrations held in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. He celebrated the festival of lights with Indian Americans for the second consecutive year. Top Indian Americans of the Trump administration and Indian Ambassador to the US, Navtej Sarna, were part of the celebrations.

The first White House Diwali celebrations were held during the tenure of George Bush in 2003. However, Bush did not attend the ceremony. A senior official used to represent the President during the celebrations held in the India Treaty Room of the Executive Office Building.
