West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
In a new development, West Bengal Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee has called for conducting forensic tests of truck tyres coming from other States to check for the reasons behind the surging cases of COVID-19 in the State's Jhargram, reports Indian Express.
CM Banerjee asserted that Jhargram borders Jharkhand and that several trucks from Mumbai, Chennai and other States pass through the district. She made the case for conducting tests on the tyres of a couple of trucks which pass through the toll plazas and also for limiting the interaction between drivers at dhabas.
CM Banerjee also pressed, "I think Covid-19 is air borne as it can get transmitted from the bags we use in the market or from our clothes. We actually do not have a clear idea of how it is spreading." She also said that the people coming in trucks from other States must carry their own food.
CM Banerjee ordered the administrative officials present in the meeting to chalk out a plan in this connection. She said, "The only way to check it is by taking appropriate precautionary measures. And since it is rising in Jhargram we have to take extra steps in advance."
