West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided to ban victory processions of the BJP in the state by alleging that they trigger violence. She has thus instructed the state police to take strict action against an BJP workers or leader flouting the order, Hindustan Times has reported.

This order by Mamata has earned the backlash of BJP leaders who claim that it is a result of deteriorating law and order situation in the state. They also added that the Trinamool government is failing to do its duty.

The aftermath of the 2019 Lok Sabha results saw a spurt of violence in the state after BJP threatened Trinamool’s political hegemony by winning 18 out of 42 seats in the state.

There have also been instances of Trinamool workers harassing voters and cutting water supply in areas where the BJP performed well.
