The District Magistrate (DM) of Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh tweeted an image on Sunday of a man cleaning drain with a long broom.
DM Aunjaneya Kumar Kumar said in the post that the man had called up the helpline set up for the needy to make a demand of ‘samosas with chutney’.
The district administration has set up a helpline to attend to the calls of the needy in want of food during the ongoing 21-day nationwide lockdown.
Singh made the man clean the drain to “shame” him for making a frivolous call.
“We are receiving several calls on our helpline number in which people are asking for pizza and 'samosas'. So, now we have started ‘publicly shaming’ such people to discourage others who are making fun of this pandemic,” The Times of India has quoted the DM as saying.
The report says the man is from Rampur’s Swar tehsil.
Singh’s act was widely supported by social media users.
