Controversial Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar has justified calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi Neech, in an opinion post which has been carried by various media outlets.

In the article which took a patronising tone, Aiyar accused Prime Minister Modi of lying about his educational qualifications and of insulting the armed forces over his radar comment, plus for taking on Rajiv Gandhi for holidaying in Lakshadweep using India’s solitary aircraft carrier.

Subsequently, Aiyar concluded with the following statement, “But then, why bother? Modi will, in any case, be ousted by the people of India on 23 May. That would be a fitting end to the most foul-mouthed prime minister this country has seen or is likely to see. Remember how I described him on 7 December 2017? Was I not prophetic?”.

To put things in context, Aiyar on 7 December 2017 had called Prime Minister Modi Neech, while campaigning during the Gujarat assembly polls.

The comment snowballed into a big issue, similar to another controversial comment by Aiyar prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls wherein he had mocked Prime Minister Modi’s humble beginnings as a tea seller.
