A mass-shooting was reported at a tram station in the Dutch city of Utrecht which has resulted in several injuries, BBC has reported.

As per the report, the assailant opened fire at a tram near the 24 Oktoberplein junction at about 3.15 pm Indian Standard Time (IST) on Monday (18 March). A town square has been cordoned off as a result of the shooting and emergency respondents are at the scene.

The gunman is still said to be at large, while the police investigates a possible terror motive behind the attack.

All the tram services in the city have been cancelled as a result of the attack.

This mass-shooting comes just days after the terror attack on two Christchurch mosques in New Zealand which resulted in the death of 50 people. Five of the deceased have been reported to be of Indian nationality.

The main gunman is believed to have been an Australian born Brenton Tarrant. He is said to have released a racist manifesto on social media prior to the crime.

He also live streamed the shooting which targeted the city’s main Al Noor mosque and a mosque situated in the suburb of Linwood. Two explosive devices strapped on vehicles were also found and were later disarmed.
