Massive Step Towards A Cleaner Ganga As Modi Govt Completes Construction Of Two Major STPs In West Bengal
On the banks of the Ganga.
In a major development towards ensuring a clean and uninterrupted Ganga river, the Government of India has successfully established two new sewage treatment plants (STPs) in Bhatpara of West Bengal State with capacities of 31 MLD and 10 MLD respectively, reports Asian News International (ANI).
It should also be noted that, established under Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi's flagship Namami Gange Programme, the 31 MLD STP is the nation's first sustainable Green STP, equipped with Fixed-Bed Biofilm Activated Sludge technology.
Alongside the launch of the two STPs, the Government under the Namami gange Programme has completed the construction of a sewage network of a massive 120 kilometers in the city of Bhatpara which would restrict the flow of untreated sewage into the Hooghly.
Meanwhile, the work on another STP with a capacity of 16 MLD is nearing completion in Halisahar near Bhatpara. Once the work on the STP is completed by mid-2020, it would ensure nil direct flow of sewage into hooghly from Halisahar.
