Even as Tamil Nadu continues to grapple with a severe water crisis, particularly in the capital Chennai, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has lashed out at the media, claiming that they are exaggerating its magnitude, reports The News Minute.

“If there is water shortage in one place, the media friends blow it up as a big thing. I request you all to not blow it up and show as if the entire Tamil Nadu is reeling under water crisis,” Palaniswami said while speaking with journalists.

He added that the state government is utilising lorries to supply those areas which are witnessing shortages in water availability. Earlier, Municipal Administration minister SP Velumani had claimed that headlines regarding water scarcity were being “manufactured”.

As per an India Today report, Palaniswami had also stated that the media was creating “an illusion of water scarcity using stray incidents”. This comes even amidst reports of a number of IT companies asking employees to not come to office and work from home due to the lack of water availability.

The Madras High Court has also come down heavily on the state government’s handling of the situation, stating that considering that a monsoon failure was expected, it had not taken adequate steps to deal with possible water shortages.
