Modi Government Compulsorily Retires 22 More Senior Tax Officers Over Corruption, CBI Charges

As many as 22 tax officials accused of corruption and serious irregularities were sacked by the Centre on Monday (26 August), reports Hindustan Times.
Earlier in June this year, the government had sacked 27 senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers including 12 from the income tax department.
The move is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to purge the “black sheep” in the tax administration misusing their powers to harass honest taxpayers.
“The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has compulsorily retired yet another 22 senior officers of the rank of Superintendent/Administrative Officer under Fundamental Rule 56 (J)... due to corruption and other charges and CBI traps,” the CBIC said in a statement.
According to the report, many of the indirect taxes and customs department compulsorily retired on Monday (26 August) have been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the past while some others had faced inquiries for irregularities, cases for disproportionate assets or collusion.
