The legendary singer whose mellifluous sound won the entire nation, Lata Mangeshkar , will be conferred with the title of 'Daughter of The Nation' on her birthday (28 September) by the Modi government when she is due to turn 90 years old, reports The Economic Times.
The title will be given to Mangeshkar in recognition of her unparalleled contribution to the Indian film music industry. On the occasion, renowned poet and lyricist Prasoon Joshi will also be dedicating a special song to her.
As per Government insiders, Modi is a big fan of Mangeshkar who has had a stellar 70-years-long career in the industry.
Highly respected as the voice of the nation by many, Mangeshkar has lent her voice to music in over a thousand films. Her works span over 36 Indian vernacular languages including Hindi, Bengali and Marathi. She is also a recipient of the Bharat Ratna award which is India's highest civilian honour.
