Modi Govt Compulsorily Retires Five CBI Officers, Senior Public Prosecutor: Report

The Central government has compulsorily retired five CBI officers and a senior public prosecutor, sources said on Tuesday (26 October).
The officers and the advocate were removed in public interest under clause 56 (j) of Fundamental Rules, they said.
The clause 56(j) of the Fundamental Rules gives absolute right to the government to retire any government servant, fulfilling the criteria of age and service, in public interest by giving notice of not less than three months in writing or three months' pay and allowances in lieu of such a notice.
Earlier in June 2019, the Modi government had compulsorily retired 27 senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers including 12 from the income tax department. The twelve senior income tax (IT) officers, including one of the ranks of the joint commissioner, were sacked from the service on the charges of corruption and professional misconduct. The list includeed a Joint Commissioner rank officer against whom there were serious complaints of corruption and extortion from businessmen accused of helping self-styled godman Chandraswami.
In August 2019, the government sacked 22 tax officials that were accused of corruption and serious irregularities.
