In a boost for the food processing sector, the Government's Inter-Ministerial Approval Committee (IMAC) has green-lighted 28 projects in the sector entailing a cost of Rs 320.33 crore which will also have a support of Rs 107.42 crore by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), reports Livemint.

Chaired by Union Agriculture Minister, the IMAC approved the projects which would come up across 10 States and generate employment opportunities for 10,000 people. The projects will be implemented under the Scheme of Creation/Expansion of Food Processing and Preservation Capacities (CEFPPC) (Unit Scheme) under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY).

The projects would come up in the States of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharastra, J&K, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Assam, and Manipur. Of the 28, six of the projects will come up in the North-Eastern States. The projects in the North East States will entail an investment of Rs 48.87 crore supported by a grant of Rs 20.35 crore by MoFPI.

The projects once completed will create an additional food processing capacity of 1,237 MT daily.
