Modi Govt To Extend PLI Scheme To Laptops And Tablets After Its Success In Attracting Mobile Manufacturers

The Narendra Modi led central government is planning to extend the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the manufacture of laptops and tablets, Livemint has reported.
This plan comes after the success of the scheme for the manufacture of mobile phones and its components.
"Now, my focus is that India emerges as a big centre for manufacturing of other important electronic gadgets, which have become integral to our day-to-day existence, that is from laptops, to tablets and to servers", said Electronics and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
He was speaking at Ficci's 93rd Annual General Meeting.
Under this scheme the manufacturers will get 4-6 per cent incentive on incremental sales of manufactured products for five years under the flagship Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
Sixteen mobile phone and electronic manufactures have so-far received approvals to avail the benefits of the PLI scheme. This includes Samsung, Foxconn and Micromax. Apple contact manufacturers like Wistron and Pegatron are also eligible to avail this scheme.
As per NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, the PLI scheme can attract investments worth $520 billion (Rs 38.36 lakh crore).
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has said that the PLI scheme will help create an ecosystem that will add Rs 20 lakh crore worth of manufacturing ecosystem each year and three crore well paying jobs.
