Ahead of visiting India for the second informal summit with Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, likely to be in the historic town of Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu, the Chinese President Xi Jinping will be hosting Pakistan's PM Imran Khan on 8 October, reports Asian News International (ANI).
The visit, which would mark PM Khan's third trip to China since coming to power in August last year, would come just days ahead of President Jinping's visit to India. This comes amidst the growing discord between India and its two neighbours over the Kashmir issue.
China has backed its all-weather ally Pakistan in its anti-India rhetoric over the developments in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) despite India's apprehensions about the same. It has termed the Indian Parliament's decision to repeal Article 370 of its constitution as 'unilateral'.
The informal summit between China and India is expected to help align the two nations better, like the previous summit in Wuhan helped harmonise the ties between the two nations after escalation between their armies in the Dokalam plateau of Bhutan.
The summit will take place in the ancient city of Malabalipuram in Chennai. Recently, in August, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had also visited China to engage with his counterpart Wang Yi and prepare the ground for the visit.
