MP: Kamal Nath's Status As Congress' Star Campaigner For Bypolls Revoked After Repeated Poll Code Violations

Following repeated violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by the former chief minister (CM) of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath, the Election Commission (EC) on Friday (30 October) revoked his status as the "star campaigner" of the Indian National Congress (INC) ahead of the upcoming by-poll elections, reports Indian Express.
The poll panel's action against Nath comes over his remark calling the incumbent CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan "mafia" and "milawat khor" on 13 October. Earlier, EC had also issued a warning to Nath after he had called Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s candidate Imarti Devi an "item" while campaigning for a Congress candidate.
The EC in its order stated that Nath had completely disregarded the advisory issued to him and that his status as a "star campaigner" stood revoked with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, trying to save face, INC has said that it will be approaching the Supreme Court (SC) to challenge the EC's action against Nath.
Madhya Pradesh is set to undergo by-poll elections to 28 seats of the State Assembly on 3 November.
