Shivraj Singh Chouhan - left, Kamal Nath - right
The Supreme Court on Tuesday (17 March) postponed the hearing to Wednesday on a plea by nine Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs seeking floor test in the Madhya Pradesh (MP) assembly.
The SC issued a notice to the MP government, the Congress, and the MP assembly speaker in order to inform them regarding the hearing to take place tomorrow.
BJP MLAs including former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had moved the SC after the MP assembly speaker N P Prajapati had adjourned the house until 26 March amid the Coronavirus scare. However, the BJP alleged that the Congress was trying to escape the floor test.
The apex court began hearing the matter on Tuesday at 10:30am, where the BJP MLAs were represented by senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi. However, there was no lawyer in the SC to represent the MP government, CM Kamal Nath, or the Congress.
To this, the BJP accused that the Congress was deliberately delaying the matter as it did not have the majority in the house.
