Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Tuesday (17 March) ruled out truncating the ongoing Budget Session of the Parliament due to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and asserted that at a time of such a health crisis, lawmakers should be seen doing their work, reports Indian Express.

Speaking at the parliamentary party meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), PM Modi asked, "What will happen if medical professionals and railway and airline employees also speak about not working due to the health scare?"

PM Modi, addressing the BJP's Members of the Parliament (MP), urged them to spread awareness about COVID-19, while also making a strong pitch for the Parliament to carry on with its business as per the schedule.

It should be noted that Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla had recently held a meeting with officials from the concerned agencies to review the preparedness to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the Parliament House Complex.

The ongoing Budget Session is scheduled to continue until 3 April.
