Multiple blasts rocked Sri Lanka on Sunday (21 April) morning. The explosions hit three churches and two luxury hotels in Colombo and other part of the country, killing at least 20 people, India Today has reported.
According to a News18 report, worshippers were targeted at the Kochikade, Saint Sebastian and Batticaloa churches during easter mass while the other two locations are Hotel Shangri La and Cinnamon Grand. As per the media reports, Katuwapitiya Church and Kingsbury Church were reportedly also targeted.
At least 20 people have died so far while 280 others have been injured in the blast, director of Colombo National Hospital said, reported Reuters.
The blasts reportedly occurred at around 8.45am Sri Lankan time as the Easter Sunday masses were in progress, police spokesperson Ruwan Gunasekera said.
Reportedly, no group or individual has so far come forward to take the responsibility of the blasts.
Meanwhile, Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj tweeted that the Indian government and envoys are closely monitoring the situation in Sri Lanka.
