Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor To Have 35 Trains With 10 Coaches By 2023, Will Ferry 40,000 Passengers

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor will have 35 trains with one executive coach and nine general coaches by 2023, Hindustan Times has reported.
According to the report, the total number of coaches in each train would increase to 15 by 2033 to accommodate additional passenger traffic. While there would be 750 seats in a 10-coach train, the 15-coach one will have 1,250 seats.
“We are in the process to buy 24 bullet train rakes of E-5 series running on Shinkansen technology from the Japanese government. To ensure there are enough train rakes, we would keep 20 trains in operation and the rest on standby for emergencies. This would ensure a free flow of services on the route,” The Indian Express quoted Managing Director of NHRC, Achal Khare, as saying.
The coaches will have separate toilets and washrooms for the specially-abled, fast food vendors on-board and rotating seats, among other features. The executive coach will have leg rests, luggage space and staff rooms including refrigerators, boiling water, tea and coffee-maker and hand towel warmers.
The 35 train will make 70 trips in a day between Mumbai and Ahmedabad and are expected to ferry around 40,000 passengers by 2023. The Western Railway currently operates 20 trains on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route daily.
“According to our study, there are as many as 4,700 passengers who travel daily by flights between Mumbai and Ahmadabad. While 5,000 passengers take trains every day, around 15,000 people use cars to commute. We plan to carry at least 40,000 passengers on a daily basis between the two cities once the bullet train is in operation,” Khare said.
Train service would be available every 20 minutes from the originating station at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. The National High-Speed Railway Corporation (NHRC) will begin work on the rail station, the corridor’s first, in November.
The land required for the station will be acquired from 108 villages, including 39 in Thane, 73 in Palghar and 5 in Mumbai. More than 10,000 people could be affected by the project. The process of land acquisition is in full swing.
"We plan to acquire entire 1415 hectares of land by December 18. We are looking at compensation to the tune of Rs 10000 crore," he added.
