Mumbai Metro Cares For The Pocket: MMRDA Says Fares Will Be Unchanged For Upcoming Lines

The upcoming Mumbai metro lines will have the same fares as the existing ones, MoneyControl has reported. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said that the fares charged to passengers of the Mumbai Metro One corridor will be the same as that of existing metro lines.
Mumbai Metro One is the city’s first 11.4 km long corridor. It will operate on the high-traffic Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar section. The fare slab on this line is between Rs 10 to 40. "The fare slab of Rs 10, 20, 30 and 40 are quite reasonable," MMRDA Commissioner R A Rajeev said at an event.
He also added that the Mumbai Metro was profitable if operational costs alone were to be considered. “If you set aside the capex of Metro One and if you see only the operation cost, then its EBITA is positive. I also want to stress out that financial aspect is not going to affect the execution of other big-ticket projects anyway,” he added.
Existing metro lines have a ridership of 4.5 lakh and the new lines that will start operations are likely to be game changers for the city’s transportation needs.
