Mumbai Metro Keeps Thane Close: 29 Km-Long Ring Route To Connect All Parts Of City

Aiming to boost connectivity in Thane, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has planned a 29 km-long partially underground metro corridor that will connect interior parts of the city. One of the main reasons for the decision is the increase in vehicular density in the region.
The detailed project report of the project has reached its final draft and will be submitted soon. DNA quoted Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director of MMRC as saying, “The proposed ring Metro in Thane will connect areas in the city rather than connecting with the neighbourhood cities. We are in the final stages of preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the same.”
26 km of the route will be covered through an elevated system and the remaining three km will be underground. This will be near the railway station in Thane, considering the amount of possible traffic congestion around that area. The cost of the project will be Rs 12,000 crore approximately. MMRC expects the ridership to touch 5.76 lakh by 2025.
The Wadala-Thane-Kasarvadavli Metro line work began earlier this year as a part of the Metro-4 project.
