In a meeting with 12 Muslim 'intellectuals' who met Rahul Gandhi advised him to introspect on Congress party and avoid talking about Muslim issues, ANI has reported. Irfan Habib, industrialist Junaid Rehman, 'intellectual' Iliash Malik, Congress minority department chairman Nadim Javed, writers Rakshanda Jalil and Farah Naqvi were among those who met the Congress President.
Rahul Gandhi was told to focus on issues like education and poverty as speaking on issues of Muslims would 'polarise' him as a leader.
"Today in the meeting, we advised Rahul Gandhi to not talk about the Muslim community in particular as it will give others an opportunity to polarise him as a leader. He should rather talk about poverty and education. If he does so it will affect 96 percent Muslims like other Indians," Irfan Habib told ANI .
Rahul was advised to think about the 'inclusive' agenda of the Congress in the 1970s, Habib added. Former Union Minister Salman Khurshid, who was present in the meeting, told the media that issues regarding personal law board were not raised as the matter was in court.
He hoped that more such interactions would happen in future.
