All India Muslim Tehwar Committee (AIMTC), a Muslim outfit based in Bhopal, has called for a ban on film ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’, saying that it shows Islamic traditions in a bad light.

"Advisory panel of Madhya Pradesh unit of All India Muslim Tehwar Committee at its meeting here yesterday condemned the movie," said Ausaf Shahmeeri Khurram, the organisation's state unit chief.

“If somebody peeps into the burkha worn by our sisters and daughters, we won’t remain silent. Burkha is an Islamic tradition, and nobody has the right to talk about it in a negative way,” Hindustan Times quoted him as saying.

AIMTC has said that film goes "against the dignity of our women and tenets of Islam" and requested the Central Board of Film Certification not to clear it. The organisation has also warned the makers of the film saying it plans to initiate legal action against them. It has also warned the director and the cast of the film to not visit Bhopal.

The film, directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and produced by Prakash Jha, has been denied certification by the CBFC for being “lady oriented” and containing “abusive words”.

The film has won multiple awards at national and international platforms, including the Spirit of Asia Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Oxfam Award for Best Film on Gender Equality at the Mumbai Film Festival.
