Mysuru Takes To The Skies: To Get Six New Flight Services As Part Of UDAN’s Third Phase

The Mysore Airport, also known as Mandakalli Airport will soon be receiving six new services in the latest phase of the Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme, reports Deccan Herald.
Member of Parliament, Prathap Simha, in a press release, stated that the city will have flight services to other cities in the state as well as the neighbouring states under the regional connectivity scheme (RCS) UDAN.
The release said that the aviation ministry had accepted the flight services to Belgavi, Goa, Cochin and Bengaluru along with two flights to Hyderabad.
Airport Director of Mysuru, C Manjunath said that currently, only one flight service is actively operating in the city. “Trujet flight that arrives at Mysuru at 8 PM departs at 8.20 PM. It is bound for Chennai. But, from Chennai, it leaves for Hyderabad. It is receiving good response from the passengers,” Manjunath said.
The Airport manager of Trujet, T A Gurunath says that the induction of new flight services in the airport would be an amiable development in the aviation sector.
The UDAN scheme brought with it the introduction of Trujet flights on 20 September 2017. The services had to stop on 16 November 2017 due to operational issues. However, the service resumed five days later.
Various airlines like Kingfisher Airways, Spice Jet and Alliance Air introduced and operated flights at Mysuru airport including the Mysuru-Bengaluru route, but the initiatives failed due to poor responses as well as the state capital next to the city housing an international airport.
