The first flight from Navi Mumbai airport is likely to start operations by September 2021 The Times of India reported Civil Aviation Secretary R N Choubey saying on Tuesday ( 4 September).
Choubey who reviewed the progress of the Greenfield project said the state government is optimistic about starting flight operation in the next three years.
"The state government and the concessionaire are optimistic hat they will be in a position to start the first flight possibly in three years from now”,TOI quoted him as saying.
“We are trying to, off course, even compress it even further to see the first flight earlier because not all facilities needed to be built to initiate the flights. But thats probably the timeline and its going at a very good pace,” he added.
GVK group through its subsidiary Mumbai International Airport (MIAL) is developing the project and has 74 per cent stake in Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIAL). While Cidco which sold 26 percent stake is mandated to execute the project.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had laid the foundation stone for the airport which will be a deliverance to single-runway slot constrained Chattrapati Shivaji International airport in Mumbai.
