Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday (24 December) remarked on the urgent need for establishing a high-quality management training institute for those aspiring to become IAS and IPS officers, reports The Indian Express.

Gadkari made the comments while addressing students of management studies at Vigyan Bhawan.

He talked about how in the modern world knowledge needs to be combined with innovation, entrepreneurship, science and technology, and research development. Gadkari added that the future of the nation depends on the ability to transform knowledge into wealth.

The minister also laid out the need for creating some sort of a performance audit to take stock of the capabilities of those working at the level of district administration.

“When you give interviews or written tests, you get selected based on knowledge. When a person is deemed good, he is useful in the administration. But, when there is an error in selection, the entire system gets disturbed,” said Gadkari.

He reasoned that if an individual expects favourable postings through the system, then it is also incumbent on him to make some good decisions in return. He added that those who didn’t even want to take decisions could not justifiably demand promotions.
