Nepal And Bhutan Pledge Contributions Towards SAARC Emergency COVID-19 Fund Proposed By PM Modi

Coming out with monetary support to further the formation of the SAARC Emergency COVID-19 Fund proposed by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi recently during the SAARC Leaders Conference, Nepal and Bhutan on Friday (20 March) pledged $1 million and $1,00,000 for the fund respectively, reports Times of India.
The amounts pledged by the two nations come in addition to $10 million which PM Modi had committed as India's contribution towards the fund which is aimed at helping the members of the SAARC contain the spread of the pandemic.
The initiative of PM Modi has called for a robust and collaborative effort by the member nations of SAARC to contain the pandemic and set an example to the global community. It should also be noted that the call for holding the conference on COVID-19 had also been pledged by PM Modi himself.
Meanwhile, alongside Nepal pledging $1 million for the fund to fight the pandemic, its Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali and his Indian counterpart, Union Minister for External Affairs Dr S Jaishankar held a conversation in which India responded positively to Nepal's request for assistance.
