Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi tore into Kerala’s LDF government’s handling of the Sabarimala crisis and called out the Left’s hatred for Indian culture, Times of India has reported.

"We knew that communists do not respect the Indian history, culture and spirituality but nobody imagined that they will have such hatred," the PM has been quoted as saying during a rally in Kerala today (15 January).

He also said that the state government’s handling of the entire issue will go down as one of the ‘most shameful’ acts of by a party in Indian history.

He also called out the Opposition’s alleged double-speak on social and gender justice as the parties (the Congress and the Left) opposed the BJP’s moves to abolish triple talaq in Parliament. He also said that the parties’ behaviour has damaged Kerala’s social fabric and accused them of perpetrating political violence.

Mishandling A Crisis?

The Pinarayi Vijayan-led Kerala government has drawn massive criticism for its handling of the Sabarimala issue with even the Kerala High Court having taken note of the government’s heavy handedness on the issue. The government has also been directed to submit an affidavit on the circumstance under which the women entered the shrine defying tradition despite protests by thousands of devotees.
